Flashback Friday

So with all the hubub about immigration, and what's constitutional, I thought I'd post a flashback pic from my first trip to DC. Unfortunately, the only pic from that trip that I have scanned is not a great one, but I'm gonna post it anyway. So it's me and a cute Air Force boy on the steps of the capital building. It was August 1999. We did a trip to NYC, DC, Philadelphia, Gettysburg, and Pennsylvania Dutch Country, and we did it all in 7 days. We did not get much sleep! So on this night we went to the capital building to watch the Air Force band give a concert. After the concert we were just hanging out on the lawn and we saw fireflies! It was the first time I had seen fireflies. So Mom taught us how to smack them so they would keep glowing. We were catching fireflies on the front lawn of the capital building, it was a surreal moment. Anyway, I'll try to scan some more pics from that trip, it really was an awesome vacation!

Flashback Friday

Yes I know I missed last week, but ohwell.
So this week I was talking with one of the girls I work with about ear candling. She had heard about it and wondered what it was like. I had completely forgotten about doing this. My cousins live in Arizona and several years ago when we were there visiting my cousin's wife mentioned doing this. She had some of the candles and I wanted to try it so I did. It feels weird, like a tickle in your ear. I didn't notice if they were any cleaner or notice any difference in hearing or anything afterwards, but there was a bunch of junk on the plate. Although that could have just been ash from the candle. Anyway here is a pic of me getting my ear "candled."

Happy Birthday Jessie!

Today is my cousin Jessica's birthday. And in her honor I'm bringing back flashback friday. Here's two pics. The first is Jessica and I in the bathtub, I think I was about 8 or 9, so she was about 4 or 5. The second one is us girl cousins at Jessica's graduation, 10 years ago. We made shirts for the whole family that said I'm Jessica's cousin (aunt, grandma, etc). Happy Birthday Jessie! Next week you'll get the best present, I'll be there to visit!

Flashback Friday

In keeping with the theme of the holidays, my flashback Friday photo is Thanksgiving related. In 2004, my mom and I went on a trip to New England. We flew into NYC and spent a few days there. Then we rented a car and drove around the New England states. One of our stops was in Plymouth, Mass. We were there in October, and oh my golly was it cold. Seriously, it was bone chilling cold. The wind was blowing and it was horrible. We both said it was no wonder most of the pilgrims didn't survive the first winter. It was just downright awful weather. And this was just October, technically still fall. I wouldn't want to experience it in the middle of February. Anyway so here's this weeks picture...

Me, at Plymouth Rock. Its kind of disappointing actually. You expect a big rock that the Mayflower would have crashed into, and its just this little-ish rock. It's maybe 3 feet across...pretty hard to crash into that. Although we did visit a replica of the Mayflower and it was a pretty small ship. No way I would have crossed the Atlantic in that.

On the same trip, this was in Conneticut. The colors were so pretty, we pulled over and took a pic in someone's front yard. :)

Flashback Friday

It's flashback Friday again! For this week's picture I decided to use a picture of my cousin since his birthday is on Sunday. This cousin is special to me, because he is just a few months younger than me. And I don't know if it is because we're so close in age, or some other reason, but we've always had a special bond. We may not talk as much as we should, but I think he knows that I'm always here for him, and I know that if I ever needed anything, he would be there for me. He has struggled in the past, but I think now, maybe he's finally at a place of contentment in his life. I pray for this cousin, for although he was raised in the same Christian faith as me, he made a statement to me in the past, that he didn't really feel like a Christian anymore. I don't know if it was just a momentary feeling, or he still feels this way, but I pray for him. That he walks away from his particular demons, whatever they may be, and finds peace with the Lord. I love ya, Jimmy.

Flashback Friday

Ok, so I thought I would be all organized and get this done ahead of time, but I forgot, and ran out of time to get over to my parents house and scan an old picture. So I have to use one that I already had scanned. Since it's November, I thought I would do a Thanksgiving theme. So here's this weeks flashback picture...

This was Thanksgiving '04. We alternate years between going to my cousins house in Arizona and them coming here. So this year we were in Arizona, this is my little cousin Tatum and I horseback riding. She was 4 in this picture. She's 9 now, and one of my most favorite people. She has no fear, and is always ready for an adventure. Love her!

Flashback Friday

A friend of mine posts a picture from the past every Friday on her facebook. The only criteria is it has to be a picture that pre-dates digital cameras. (Remember the days when you had to wait to get a roll of film to be developed before you got to see the pictures. I miss those days, there was something exciting about finding out what pictures you got. There was always a surprise in there. Not so with digitals.) Anyway it has to be an old picture that you scan in. I have tons of pictures and need to get to scanning them into digital, so this is my motivation.

So here is my first Flashback Friday photo. I chose it because it was taken 15 years ago, around this time of year. (I can tell by the Haunt decorations.) I was 17 years old and working as a games hostess at Knotts Berry Farm. And that half person in the background was my co-worker, Jeremy, who I had a HUGE crush on. He was so cute. I wonder what ever happened to him....

And yes I posted this yesterday, then deleted it when I realized it wasn't Friday. ooops. :)
